Paperwork

From the online schedule, upone confirmation of your approximate 1 hour new patient appointment confirmation through email. Additional online forms to be completed will be sent to you in a separate email, then when you submit them, the forms are automatically integrated into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) once Dr. Shapiro reviews them. Paper copies can of forms can also be sent to you, for you to print out and complete, if you wish. You must remamber to bring them in for your appointment. Both general and specific information about yourself, your condition and your history will help Dr. Shapiro get to know how to best HELP you.

Consultation

Once the history and office forms have been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options.

History and Examination

In order to determine what your actual problem is, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition, as well as a review of related systems to rule out other problems that could be presenting and to further understand your presenting complaints. Next, a number of specialized tests will be performed,range of motion, orthopedic, neurological and the very specific CHIROPRACTIC SPINAL EXAMINATION, to determine which tissues are affected, to what extent, and understand the complexity of the problem, so he can decide how best to move forward to help you with your spinal problems.

Radiology Studies

Your specific condition may require Dr. Shapiro to order radiology studies to best understand your spinal complaint(s). For example, x-rays, MRI, CT or Ultrasound scans are very helpful in ruling in or out spinal damage, ot more serious conditions, or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you.

Same Day Treatment

Once Dr. Shapiro has completed, the history, examinations and all appropriate studies, Dr. Shapiro will decide if he will accept your case. Patients will generally be provided with their first treatment during this same visit. This may include spinal adjustments, physical medicine and/or soft tissue therapies.Future visits may include stretchign and strengthening exercises. Dr. Shapiro will make appropriate referral recommendations when a problem outside the scope of Chiropractic presents itself.

Home Instructions

Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches.
